Inclusive Practice Workshops
The Stages Intercultural Growth
Intercultural Competence is the capability to shift perspective as we interact in diverse settings and appropriately adapt behavior with awareness of differences and commonalities. The idea is not to over-emphasize differences (risk fragmentation) or over-emphasize similarities (miss distinctiveness). Engagement with diversity and those unlike us presents an opportunity to solve bigger problems while practicing inclusive behavior. This also means that our perception of community or in-group and out-group changes much faster than ever before. This module provides awareness of the cognitive stages of change and strategies to help individuals increase their intercultural competence. Participants gain:
1. Insight concerning intercultural mindsets
2. Clarity of intercultural goals important to them
3. Professional development opportunity for educators, administrators or parents that’s applicable across sectors and globally.
Foundations of Inclusive Practice
There is a lot important work being done in organizations to raise awareness of diversity as a value but also as a topic that triggers how various persons have been empowered or oppressed in society and throughout history. Organizations have been looking to diversify rapidly and must be cognizant that individuals bring with them everything they have experienced, and it shapes how they navigate the world. Moving from a place of appreciating diversity to a place of inclusion or “belonging” means we all get to use empathy to more fully understand ourselves relative to our organizations and the roles we hold in society. This workshop invites participants to gain:
1. Nuanced sense of personal identities and important terms when diversifying
2. Exercises useful for personal, interpersonal and small group settings
3. Learn frameworks and strategies that support building empathy and resilience in diverse spaces
